उत्तराखंड में मत्स्य पालन के क्षेत्र में किए गए अभिनव प्रयोगों के लिए राष्ट्रीय मत्स्य विकास बोर्ड हैदराबाद की ओर से, उत्तराखंड को हिमायली और उत्तर पूर्व के राज्यों की श्रेणी में सर्वश्रेष्ठ राज्य का पुरस्कार प्रदान किया गया है।
गुरुवार को विश्व मत्स्य पालन दिवस पर नई दिल्ली में आयोजित समारोह में केंद्रीय मत्स्य, पशुपालन, डेयरी, पंचायतीराज राज्यमंत्री राजीव रंजन सिंह उर्फ लल्लन सिंह द्वारा, उत्तराखंड के सचिव पशुपालन, मत्स्य विभाग डॉ बीवीआरसी पुरुषोत्तम को यह पुरस्कार सौंपा गया।
उत्तराखंड मत्स्य पालन विभाग ट्राउट फार्मिंग के लिए राज्य में 1400 से अधिक ट्राउट रेसवेज का निर्माण कर चुका है, साथ ही मत्स्य सम्पदा योजना के तहत उधमसिंह नगर में राज्य स्तरीय एक्वापार्क और एक होल सेल मार्केट का भी निर्माण किया जा चुका है। यही नहीं विभाग ने स्थानीय मत्स्य पालकों के समूहों और आईटीबीपी के बीच भी मछली आपूर्ति के लिए अनुबंध किया है। इन सब प्रयोग से उत्तराखंड में मछली पालकों की आय बढ़ने की उम्मीद है।
इन्हीं प्रयोगों के चलते बोर्ड ने उत्तराखंड को इस पुरस्कार के लिए चुना है। मुख्यमंत्री पुष्कर सिंह धामी ने पुरस्कार पर विभाग ओर मत्स्य पालकों को बधाई देते हुए कहा कि सरकार किसानों और पशुपालकों की आय बढ़ाने के लिए निरंतर कई प्रयास कर रही है। इसके परिणाम अब नजर आने लगे हैं।
