बता दें कि भारत ने टॉस जीतकर इंग्लैंड को पहले खेलने का नौता दिया था। कप्तान जोस बटलर (68 रन) के अर्धशतक को छोड़कर कोई भी इंग्लिश बल्लेबाज क्रीज पर टिक नहीं पाया और 20 ओवर में मेहमान सिर्फ 132 रन पर सिमट गए। भारत के लिए वरुण चक्रवर्ती सबसे सफल गेंदबाज रहे, जिन्होंने 23 रन देकर तीन विकेट झटके। अर्शदीप सिंह ने 17 रन देकर दो विकेट हासिल किए, जिससे वह भारत के टी-20 अंतरराष्ट्रीय में सबसे ज्यादा 97 विकेट चटकाने वाले गेंदबाज बन गए। ऑलराउंडर हार्दिक पंड्या और अक्षर पटेल को दो-दो विकेट मिले।

जुलाई 2024 में जिम्बाब्वे दौरे पर अपने दूसरे ही मैच में शतक ठोककर रातों-रात सनसनी बनने वाले अभिषेक शर्मा का बल्ला बीते कुछ समय से शांत था। लेकिन आज कोलकाता में उनका बल्ला जमकर बोला। 232.35 की स्ट्राइक रेट से पांच चौके और आठ छक्के लगाए। क्या पेसर और क्या स्पिनर उन्होंने किसी को नहीं बख्शा। 20 गेंद में अर्धशतक के साथ उन्होंने भारत के लिए दूसरी सबसे तेज फिफ्टी ठोक दी। भारत के लिए संजू सेमसन ने 26 रन बनाये जबकि तिलक वर्मा 19 रन बनाकर नाबाद रहे।
