उत्तराखंड में इस साल पंचायत चुनाव नहीं होंगे। यही नहीं पंचायतों का कार्यकाल भी नहीं बढ़ाया जाएगा। प्रदेश में त्रिस्तरीय पंचायत चुनावों को लेकर मुख्यमंत्री पुष्कर सिंह धामी ने 20 अक्टूबर तक एक रिपोर्ट मांगी थी। बताया जा रहा है कि पंचायत चुनाव की तिथि अगले साल फरवरी-मार्च में हो सकती है, क्योंकि मतदाता सूची का पुनरीक्षण जनवरी 2024 तक पूरा किया जाएगा। इस देरी के कारण, नवंबर में समाप्त हो रहे पंचायतों के कार्यकाल को नहीं बढ़ाया जाएगा, क्योंकि पंचायतीराज अधिनियम में इसकी कोई व्यवस्था नहीं है। हालांकि, सरकार के पास यह विकल्प है कि वह पंचायत प्रतिनिधियों को प्रशासक नियुक्त कर सकती है।
जानकारी के अनुसार, कुछ जिलों में परिसीमन का काम अभी भी जारी है, खासकर चमोली, चंपावत, नैनीताल और ऊधमसिंह नगर जिलों में जहां नए परिसीमन से ग्राम, क्षेत्र और जिला पंचायत सीटों में बदलाव हो सकता है। पंचायत प्रतिनिधियों ने अपनी मांगों को लेकर सरकार से अनुरोध किया है कि पंचायतों का कार्यकाल दो साल तक बढ़ाया जाए और राज्य में एक राज्य एक पंचायत चुनाव के सिद्धांत को लागू किया जाए। इसके तहत, हरिद्वार सहित सभी जिलों में वर्ष 2027 में एक साथ पंचायत चुनाव कराने का प्रस्ताव है। पंचायत प्रतिनिधियों का कहना है कि पहले भी अधिसूचना जारी करके पंचायतों का कार्यकाल बढ़ाया गया था, और देश के अन्य राज्यों में भी कार्यकाल बढ़ाने के लिए अध्यादेश लाए गए हैं। पंचायतीराज विभाग के सचिव चंद्रेश कुमार यादव के अनुसार, मुख्यमंत्री ने पंचायतों के कार्यकाल के संबंध में रिपोर्ट मांगी है, जिसे सौंपने की प्रक्रिया चल रही है।
