धनतेरस पर आम लोगों ने ही नहीं बल्कि आरबीआई ने भी अपनी तिजोरी में सोना भरा है। भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक ने खुलासा किया है कि उसने लंदन में बैंक ऑफ इंग्लैंड की तिजोरियों से 102 टन सोना भारत में शिफ्ट कर दिया है। सितंबर के अंत में आरबीआई के पास कुल 855 टन सोना था। इसमें से 510.5 टन देश में रखा गया था।
विदेशी मुद्रा भंडार के प्रबंधन पर नवीनतम रिपोर्ट में यह बात सामने आई है। सितंबर 2022 से अब तक 214 टन सोना विदेश से भारत में आ चुका है। RBI और सरकार दुनियाभर में बढ़ते भू-राजनीतिक तनावों के बीच अपनी होल्डिंग को सुरक्षित करने में लगे हैं। सरकार में कई लोगों का मानना है कि सोना अपने देश में रखना ही सुरक्षित है।
1990 के दशक में भुगतान संतुलन संकट के दौर में भारत को अपना सोना गिरवी रखना पड़ा था। अब सोने की दूसरी खेप भी भारत पहुंच गई है। पिछली बार की तरह इस बार भी RBI और सरकार ने सोने को लाने के लिए विशेष विमान की व्यवस्था की थी। साथ ही इस बात के भी पुख्ता इंतजाम किए गए थे कि इस बारे में कोई जानकारी लीक न होने पाए।
