घटना के बारे में भरदारी गाड़ के उप वन क्षेत्राधिकारी केसी नैनवाल ने बताया कि स्थानीय फायर वाॅचर द्वारा मठियाणा देवी मंदिर के समीप आग लगने की सूचना देने पर वन विभाग की टीम तत्काल मौके पर पहुंची और आग को नियंत्रित किया गया। जांच करने पर पता चला कि सड़क पर सेफ्टी रैलिंग लगाने वाले मजदूरों द्वारा सड़क किनारे आग लगा कर छोड़ दी गई जिससे वो वन क्षेत्र में फैल गई।

अभियुक्तों की खोज बीन कर उन्हें पकड़ कर जवाड़ी स्थित वन चौकी में लाया गया। जिसके बाद उच्चाधिकारियों के निर्देश पर उन्हें थाना रुद्रप्रयाग ले जाया गया और उक्त अभियुक्तों पर भारतीय वन अधिनियम 1927 की धारा 26, और भारतीय न्याय संहिता 2023 की धारा 326 के तहत मुकदमा दर्ज करवाया गया।

इस अभियान में वन बीट अधिकारी गोविंद चौहान, आशीष रावत, संजय सिंह, सुरजन सिंह और अन्य फॉरेस्ट फायर वाचर शामिल रहे।
